The Master's programme in Remote Sensing, geoInformation, and Visualisation (RSIV) at the University of Potsdam equips students with essential skills and knowledge in the analysis and interpretation of spatial data. This interdisciplinary course introduces students to advanced techniques in remote sensing and geo-information systems, allowing them to address complex geological and geographical challenges. Through a combination of theory and practical application, students engage in projects that highlight the vast potential of visualising geospatial information.
This four-semester programme is structured into modules that encompass core subjects as well as elective topics, allowing students to tailor their studies according to their career goals. It follows the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), facilitating recognition of academic advancements across Europe. In addition to coursework, students are typically required to complete a thesis that demonstrates their research capabilities and critical thinking in a specific area of interest.
One standout feature of the RSIV programme is the emphasis on practical experience. It aims to foster collaboration with the German 'Mittelstand'—small to medium-sized enterprises that play a crucial role in the economy—and industry partners. Students often engage in internships that provide real-world experience and foster professional networks in Germany’s dynamic landscape. The highly technical skills gained throughout the course, combined with the opportunity for employment during studies, prepare graduates for a successful transition into the workforce.
The RSIV programme is ideally suited for individuals who possess a background in geology, geography, environmental sciences, or related fields, and who are interested in enhancing their expertise in remote sensing and geo-information technologies. Students who are passionate about utilising technology to solve practical problems in environmental monitoring, urban planning, and resource management will find this programme particularly rewarding.
Industries that commonly hire RSIV graduates include governmental organizations, environmental consultancies, urban development agencies, and technology companies focused on spatial data solutions.
It typically takes 4 semesters, with intakes in Winter semester.
