Design Futures (MA)

The Design Futures (MA) programme at Folkwang University of the Arts focuses on creating innovative design solutions that address real-world challenges. Over four semesters, students explore the intersection of industrial design, sustainability, and technology, preparing them to think critically about contemporary design issues.

Program structure includes various modules that promote interdisciplinary learning and collaborative projects with industry partners. Students engage in both theoretical studies and practical applications to earn ECTS credits, and will culminate their studies with a master’s thesis that reflects their individual design philosophies and methodologies.

In addition to intense academic training, students have the opportunity to participate in internships or practical semesters, which are essential for applying their knowledge and skills in professional environments. Through hands-on experience, students gain insights into the German design landscape, especially the influential Mittelstand corporations known for their innovative approaches to design and production.
